It goes without saying that times are a bit unsure at the moment. Posts on Social Media are all about the Covid19 Virus in some form. Whether talking about the dangers, the shut-downs, or how it is impacting our entire world. It’s all we are seeing and hearing. It’s putting fear in our world.
Fear is what causes people to do things they normally would not. We go in to a survival or panic mode. Often times we also go in to a depression or have severe anxiety. This does nothing to help. Nothing.
When I was young, I can remember things that would happen and I was always told that worry would not make it better. That God is in control. That it was not productive to be in panic mode, but instead we should be looking for possible solutions. As humans, when we are working toward something productive we are able to think clearer and we make better decisions. It’s when we give in to the hysteria and panic, we feel lost and out of control. We lose our sense of direction.
So with everything going crazy around us, what can we do? We can begin by remaining calm. Think about what you can do at this very moment to feed your mind with positive information. Be selective about who you are listening to and what you are watching. Some media outlets are just going for the ratings so all you will hear are the negative impacts and the scary news. If you are going to watch the news, perhaps look for a news outlet that seems to be sharing some of the good that is happening in our world as well. Or just catch a few moments and then turn it off. Don’t get pulled in to that rabbit hole of negative and fear.
Make a list of things that you can do that will be helpful. And then put some of them in to action. Are your children at home with you for the next few weeks? No school? There are a lot of great posts going around about things you can be doing to keep them entertained and to keep them even learning! Are you unable to work and are concerned about paying your bills? Be careful what you are spending for now, and do some things that will be helpful once you can get back to work! Maybe take this time to do some spring cleaning! Organize yourself!
Are you still able to work but business has slowed? Get some of the things accomplished that you are always thinking about but haven’t put in to place yet. For me, I have made a list of the things I’ve been needing to get done but have yet to do them. I will check them off as I go and complete as many as I can before things turn around again! Do you work from home and have the ability to do things online? People will be bored and on social media more than ever now, so perhaps now is the time to share what you do more. Make it fun. Be social online.
As I told my team, we are wise, capable, love filled people, so now is the perfect time to share with one another some ideas to encourage and keep us all going during this time. We need one another more than ever right now. We can still do conference calls and lives where we can actually see one another, so take advantage of that format!
I know we all feel different about how things are right now, but the bottom line is we can only control how we behave and react. So let’s be positive, helpful, productive, and encouraging with one another. We WILL get through this!
Love to you,
