Many years ago, I had no idea about Direct Sales other than people did it to get a discount on items they wanted perhaps. I knew of women that were in Mary Kay or Tupperware of course, but had no idea why they did what they did, other than maybe making a little bit of money and getting out of the house with friends.
Fast forward to now. It’s been 8 years that I’ve been in Direct Sales. I did it for the discount to start, because after all I didn’t realize any other benefit, right? Over time however, I have learned that this is one of the most rewarding businesses there is! Yes, I said BUSINESSES. It is a real business. I own my own business. I work for myself. The difference between me and a storefront are simply that I do not have that overhead and did not have to come up with a large amount to get started.
Aside from a small investment to start (the cost of my kit, some business cards and labels for my catalogs, and a bling shirt with our logo because after all, I like to be stylish when I go out!), the cost of doing business is an easy one for me to manage! So I am constantly asking myself why others are not jumping in to the opportunity? And, for those that ‘dabble’ in it, why aren’t they jumping in with both feet?
Benefits to Direct Sales
Here are just SOME of the benefits I have experienced since owning my own business, specifically in Direct Sales:
- Constant encouragement.
- Always challenging myself.
- Stretching outside of my comfort zone a lot and then get to celebrate my accomplishments.
- Encouraging and celebrating other people and often.
- Being surrounded by others that are excited about the same thing I am which creates more momentum and excitement.
- Making incredible life long friends.
- If I have a rough month I know I get to start again next month.
- Having the opportunity to grow as long as I continue to show up for myself consistently!
Those may not sound like important things to some, but when you have them happening in your life, you realize how important each and every one of these elements can be. As humans we want to be encouraged and celebrated. This is the first time in a ‘job’ I have experienced anything quite like what we get in Direct Sales. And how incredible is it to know you had a small part in encouraging someone else to achieve their goals and accomplish things for themselves?! I absolutely love that part.
