As we are in to week…wait, what week are we even in…of the social distancing/pandemic, a reality hits. Other than reading, I don’t seem to have any FUN hobbies!! I can only clean and reorganize cabinets so many times. So that became the question of the day over the weekend!
My husband has hobbies. He’s a hunter, so he spends a lot of time working on his lease and making plans for the upcoming season. Right now he’s in the middle of a search for an inexpensive travel trailer, which is quite time consuming I will say! That doesn’t thrill me at all, plus he has it covered, so it left me wondering what on earth should I do with myself during this time of being at home.
We do have another hobby that we do together, which is taking our boat out on beautiful days. We don’t really get in to fishing, though we have many times, but we love the simplicity of just riding around and seeing the sites. Enjoying the water and one another. Right now they have closed the marinas to our favorite spots, plus Duane works during the week anyway, so all in all, it is not a current option. Our other love on the weekends when the weather is nice is to just go to one of the beaches that are less than 2 hours away from us. But again, beaches are closed, so that takes care of that.
So I was left this weekend wondering what I could do to keep myself entertained that I would really enjoy. I typically work a lot. I love to work. I feel productive and I enjoy helping others. But without our weekend excursions, I realized the need to find something FUN to do before I lose my mind.
I could take online cooking courses, but I really just don’t like to cook. I can, but it’s not something I enjoy, so I don’t. So basically, after spending quite a bit of time tying to come up with something, I took a look around me to see what I surround myself with in my home. I have photographs everywhere. The ones I have taken are of people, but I have a love for scenery as well. Most of those photos are in books on my coffee table, or in frames on the wall. All from other photographers of course.
It hit me!
And it hit me. Why can’t I learn to take better photos? My husband said “so let’s get you a nice camera”. But no, I don’t want that. I want to be able to take random photos when I least expect it. In fact, many years ago I had a nice camera and I rarely used it. There were too many pieces and parts. Too many lens options. Too many buttons to choose from. So what did I do? I googled it. Taking better photos with my iPhone. And viola! I found an iPhone Photo Academy Course! I decided to think on it for a couple of days, and this morning as I wake up and the weather is beautiful and the flowers are in bloom, I decided to purchase the course! So I will dive in! I’m super excited about this.
I look forward to seeing the beauty more in some of the small things. I look forward to capturing it! Maybe I’ll even share some of them with you if you’d like. If the course is awesome, I will share in a future post about the course and provide a link too!
How about you?
So today, share with me what kind of hobbies you have. Or if you suddenly realized that you don’t really have many of your own, what would you like to do? During a time like this, I am realizing how important it is to have something to excite me and keep me learning! And right now there are so many opportunities to do online courses! I can’t wait to hear from you! Let me know what you are discovering!
Peace and love!
