Fall in Texas obviously doesn’t get as cool here near the coast, but it’s my favorite time of year just the same! Once we are in October, all the fall ‘feels’ come in to play. A little cooler weather just makes it that much nicer!
October to me means the beginning of the holiday season. When my son was young, I loved Halloween and would decorate for the occasion. I would even have my own costume each year! Once in a while my work would have a day we would all dress up as well, so it was just perfect.
Trick or treating was so much fun when my son was little. I would also be in costume as I stood at the end of the walkway to the houses where he would run up and ring the bell. Some homes would really go all out too. The laughter and smiles as the kids came running down the walk after having a treat dropped in to their bags was worth every second.
Now that my son is 25 and no longer living at home, I still do my best to bring a little Halloween fun to the house with decor. I don’t do nearly as much as I used to, but luckily I have some fun Accent Shades that I can put out that get me in the spirit. This also means I just begin my Fall decorating that much sooner! I love Pumpkins! And they take us all the way in to Thanksgiving, until I’m ready to begin the big Christmas redo!
Fall is also the time that we used to love getting excited about our favorite football teams.
The lockdown has temporarily presented a challenge there this year, but once we can get back to tailgating and attending games in person, it will quickly feel right again! Especially for the college games! Duane and I love sitting in a Buffalo Wild Wings on a Saturday afternoon once in a while, while watching several different college games on the big TV’s displayed all around us!
This is also the time of year when events and festivals kick in to high gear.
Whether we are set up working them, or just attending and walking around, it’s my favorite time to shop! When the weather is perfect and all of the fun booths are showing their specialty, it just makes for a perfect day to be out and about. We usually run in to people we know, get to have some fun food and beverage, and listen to some good music! It screams FALL to me!
And finally, because we are a hunting family, fall means the season will be starting soon and we begin preparations for our trips to the Ranch and making things ready.
It means campfires are around the corner. It means sitting in a blind for hours just being amazed at the beauty of these animals. Riding around the ranch and taking in the outdoors as much as we can makes for the best weekends. It’s our opportunity to relax and escape from wifi for several hours at a time, and to really just enjoy being together.
So though I do find something special and unique about every single season, I’m excited that it is fall. I always enjoy this time of year! And just knowing that Thanksgiving and Christmas is around the corner, puts me in the holiday spirit!
What is your favorite thing about this time of year?
Happy Fall y’all!
